I hope this guide will answer some of your questions about life in Class 2! These are the day-to-day routines, which may be slightly different to those in Class 1.
Word lists
Please fine enclosed a word list for the whole of Year 1 & 2. By the end of Y1 your child should be able to read and spell all of the words on word list 1 and able to read at least 80 of the words on word list 2.
Spellings
Every Friday your child will have a spelling test, the five words that your child will be tested on, will be given out each Monday morning in their spelling books. If your child is unable to spell any of the words on their spelling day they will be given these words again the following week until they learn how to spell them correctly. Please can you make sure that their spelling books are in their Blue book bags every Friday.
Reading Books
Reading books are issued on Mondays and the title of the book and the date of issue are recorded in their Reading Diary that is kept in their Blue book bags. The children keep their books for a week and then exchange them the following Monday. It would be helpful if you could write a comment in their Reading Diary, e.g. did they find the book interesting, too easy or difficult and did they manage to finish their book. If you would like to change your child’s reading book more than once a week will you please tell me in the morning and your child’s book will be changed later that day.
Corrections to work
In the children’s books I encourage them to put a circle around any mistakes that they make. This is so that I can see where they have gone wrong and help them to remedy their errors.
Marking of the childrens work
When looking at the children’s books you may see the following letters circled on every piece of children’s work. If you see a ‘GW’ this means that the work completed was done as part of a Guided Group, an ‘I’ means that the work was completed independently and an ‘A’ means that the work was completed as part of an assisted group or as an assisted individual.
P.E
PE is on Tuesday and Friday each week and could all parents of children please remove their earrings for PE.
